Nyoman Kandun

Dr I Nyoman Kandun was born in Denpasar in August 18, 1948, graduated from School of Medicine, University of Gadjah Mada, Yogyakarta in 1974. He achieved his Master degree of Public Health ( MPH ) from the Institute of Public Health, University of the Philippines System, Manila in 1979. Dr Kandun also graduated from the first batch of Indonesia’s Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP) in 1982. At that time, FETP was a two year non degree in-service training program that was conducted jointly by WHO, CDC Atlanta, and Ministry of Health Republic of Indonesia .

Prior to his current duty as Program Director of Indonesian FETP since 2008, he has served as a civil servant for 33 years. Dr Kandun retired from the Ministry of Health in August 2008 with his last position as a Director General of Disease Control and Environmental Health.

In addition to his role as FETP Director, Dr Kandun also actively supports a number of public health programs and activities. He was a Member of the Advisory Board of National Agency for Disaster Management (BNPB), Member of Immunization Technical Advisory Group-WHO/SEARO, Emeritus Member of Board of Trustees IVI (International Vaccine Institute), Previously Member of Sub-Committee of Health Research WHO-SEARO, Member of Board of Directors South Asia Field Epidemiology Training and Technology Network, Chairman of National Task Force for Lymphatic Filariasis Elimination, Member of Expert Panel of National Committee for Zoonotic Diseases Control, Member of IHR Emergency Committee For Zika and he routinely lectures in Public Health and Epidemiology in many universities in Indonesia
